Mini-Grants
Service should be accessible to everyone. We CU tries to make service more accessible to University of Illinois students through mini-grants.
Mini-grants are designed to offset your costs related to service. Learn more about how an Illinois student used mini-grants to express their creativity and help isolated seniors. All students are encouraged to take advantage of the mini-grant program.
Examples of mini-grants awarded in past semesters:
- Art supplies to make cards for Letters Against Isolation
- Postage for various mailing projects, including Books to Prisoners
- Materials to make cloth masks in response to COVID-19
- Items for packages for health care workers
- Materials to make blankets for Project Linus
- Travel expenses
How to apply for a mini-grant
- Keep your receipts! You are required to include a photo or screenshot of your itemized receipt for reimbursement.
- Complete the Mini-Grants Approval Form
- You will hear back from the We CU Team about the status of your mini-grant submission within one week.
- Typically, funds are dispersed into your student account within two weeks of approval.
You may submit more than one mini-grant form throughout the semester. Not sure if your expense qualifies for reimbursement? Email the We CU Team (we-cu@illinois.edu)

The mini-grant helped me in making my creative vision come to life. I needed printer paper, construction paper, stickers, glue, envelopes, and postage for each set of cards I had to send to the elderly facilities and that began to add up quickly.
